This is a great value in an 85mm lens. It does a fine job for portraits, sports, or general photography. It’s one of the best lenses for indoor sports in high school gyms and ice rinks. The f/1.8 aperture is usually enough to deal with the fairly dim lighting (with the ISO cranked up to at least 1000), and its fast focusing ability keeps up with the action. It's small, light weight, and easy to walk around with. Another nice feature that makes this lens very practical is the front lens group does not rotate during focusing so filters are not affected.
