This lens shines when stepped down to f/2 or smaller on cropped frame cameras, and f/2.8 on full frame cameras. It is usable at wider apertures but it’s not going to deliver razor sharp images. If you are going to be shooting at the wider apertures, which most of us do because we need some depth of field, then this lens is a great choice. It’s small, light, and a lot less expensive than the f/1.2 version.
