This is Canon's new super-zoom for cameras with an EF-S mount. It just became available for purchase in the fall of 2008. The compact size and the huge 11x zoom range make this a prime candidate for vacation goers who only want to bring one lens. The aperture is rather average at f/3.5-5.6, but is perfectly acceptable for many situations. The Image Stabilizer works great and is a must for shooting handheld at 200mm in poor light. The optics are very good with minimal distortion. We suggest taking it along the next time you travel; we did! Caution: This is an EF-S lens so it only works on cropped-frame cameras.
