This Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L lens definitely brings the "L" to the 70-300mm lens. It is very nicely built, feels good, operates smoothly, and produces L-series class images. One outstanding quality of this lens is it's performance is excellent and consistent at all focal lengths. This cannot be said of all lenses, especially lower priced lenses. It feels more compact and manageable than the 70-200mm lenses and the 100-400mm lens, which means it's easier to travel with and it is more likely to fit in your camera bag. It's not small but it is well balanced when mounted on a camera body, and it is certainly compact enough for a photography enthusiast to carry throughout an event. There is a lock switch to prevent the lens from extending when carrying it, but note that it doesn't come with a tripod ring. Also note that it's not compatible with 1.4x and 2x extenders.
