This lens has a lot going for it. It has the broad 80-400mm focal length which is extremely useful outdoors, it’s fairly small for a lens of this focal range, and it has very effective VR. The image quality is very good. But it has a few limitations, too. It doesn’t have AF-S so it focuses a bit on the slow side. The slower focus means it's good but not great for sports. It will struggle to keep up when the action is moving fast. Teleconverters don't work with this lens. It's a great choice if you need a single telephoto zoom that has long reach and is compact in size.
