This is one of the best and most versatile lens you can get. It is great for portraits, performances, sports, you name it. EVERY photographer should try this lens. It won’t take long until it knocks your socks off. It’s that good. However, as good as it is, it's not perfect. Here are a couple of limitations we ran into. It has not been a stellar performer in high school gyms where, usually, there’s not quite enough light to stop the action with an f2.8 aperture. Sports in gyms can be a challenge. If you’re planning to photograph your kid’s basketball game or gymnastics meet, you might be better off with a very wide aperture prime lens. Teleconverters will work with this lens, but the sharpness of the image does degrade just a bit with the 2x.
