The 300mm f/4 is very very sharp, corner to corner. In fact, it's doubtful that you find a telephoto lens that will beat it for sharpness. This is a great choice if you are on the move because it’s relatively compact and light weight compared to f/2.8 long focal length lenses, plus it’s sharp enough to use with teleconverters. Your images will also remain sharp when cropped in the computer. The focus is pretty fast, but not as crisp as some of the other lenses with AF-S. The built in retractable lens hood is convenient because it lets stores quickly and easily.
