This lens is nicely built, focuses quickly, and produces very little distortion. It is best used for "middle-of-the-road" photography, which means to stay away from the extremes such as wide-open apertures because the corners get soft and the vignetting is clearly visible. The performance is pretty reasonable at apertures of f/5.6 and smaller. It's an EF lens so it will function on full frame bodies, but this is probably best used on cropped-sensor bodies. It's a good choice if you are primarily using a longer lens, but you want to carry a wide angle for a few shots. If you are using a wide angle as your primary lens, then you should consider the Canon 24mm f/1.4L II USM.
