There are some big advantages to this lens over the 70-200 zooms. It gives you better corner-to-corner sharpness, it has the wide f/2.8 aperture, and it has 200m of reach without the bulk. If you know you’re going to be shooting at 200mm all day, then the zoom is just excess baggage. This lens takes a teleconverter well. It focuses very quickly, quietly and accurately using a ring USM (Ultrasonic Motor). Like the 135 f/2 L, the 200 f/2.8 L uses a rear-focusing design that is completely internal so the lens does not extend. We love it for outdoor sports and outdoor portraits.
