People who have tried this lens absolutely love it. They love the sharp images, the longer working distance, and the quality feel. This is another very sharp macro lens from Canon, even when wide open, and even in the corners. The fantastic thing about this lens is you can be further from your subject, which can be helpful when you’re causing a shadow or if the subject wants to run away if you get too close. Depth of field is very thin at 1:1 magnifications, so using small apertures is often required to get the entire subject in focus. The best macro performance is usually found at f/11. As with almost any macro lens, a tripod is recommended. This lens also does a respectable job for wildlife, but the focusing is not quite as fast as some other lenses.
