Overall, this is an excellent lens and we recommend it whole heartedly. The images are sharp and it feels good in your hands. As with any very wide aperture lens, the depth of field is narrow and it takes some practice to consistently get the focus right. This lens is actually a lot easier to work with stepped down to f/1.8 or f/2. So why not just get the f/1.8 version of this lens? Because between the two lenses, the f/1.4 version will produce the superior image at f/1.8. It will be sharper and the bokeh will be wonderful. This is a great portrait lens, indoors or out. It’s also a good choice for indoor sports.
