The 70D has a lot to offer the serious enthusiast. Canon has aimed this camera at the HD-DSLR market, which means it has an impressive array of features that make it vary useful both still photography and video.

Photography: The 70D uses the impressive DIGIC 5+ processor that can produce up to 7 shots per second. The dual pixel CMOS auto-focusing system uses 19 focusing points, and you'll probably be content to let the zone focus mode do the work for you. The 20.3 megapixels of resolution is more than plenty for making prints up to 16x20inches. The subject tracking system is impressive and locks onto moving objects with ease. The image quality is excellent under normal lighting conditions, but the low-light image quality is very good for capturing memories, but those trying for professional quality will want to move up to the the 5D Mark III or the 7D Mark II. The 70D is an all-around solid camera that is an outstanding value. The provides high performance at a reasonable price. This camera is a great choice for family events and vacations.

Videography: The Canon 70D has the Dual Pixel CMOS AF focusing system that enables autofocus and face tracking during video capture. Other cameras can AF during video recording, but this one has the Phase-detect focusing system that eliminates the jerky hunting of other AF methods. It also has the tilting touchscreen display for aiming low and high shots and easily changing the focus target. Focus following can be achieved by tapping on the touch screen when recording. Of course, manual focusing during video can be achieved by switching off the Movie Servo AF feature. It can record full HD in both MOV and MP4 formats at 24, 25, and 30 frames per second. It can record 720p video at 60 fps for slow motion playback on your video player. Audio can be recorded via the built-in stereo microphone or by external mic plugged into the 3.5mm microphone jack. But, it does not have a headphones jack for monitoring audio. It has two compression schemes for recording; ALL-I for high quality, IPB for smaller file sizes. Other video features include timecode support, silent movie mode, and a fun video snapshot function that strings together video clips to create a highlight reel.
